Everyone is trying to figure out Social Media…. is it here to stay? Where is it all going? What should we invest in?? And guess what … I don’t have the answer. I’m not quiet sure anyone out there does. My thought process on this is why are we over-thinking it?

Everytime I tell people about the sites I’m on, how they can connect with me, that I’m involved with Social Media / Networking… inevitably I get 2 responses; their eyes light up or they scrunch up their face.

The truth of the matter is… there is nothing new to the concept of social media. Do you know how to talk to people at cocktail parties? Do you know how to talk appropriately in a group of friends? Do you know how to tell a story? Do you know what type of information you share with only your family, or only close friends vs. your co-workers? Do you obnoxiously stroll up to a group of people, inturupt the conversation and say “look what I have for sale!” or “Here’s my free e-book….. I don’t care if you don’t collect stamps … you need my free e-book anyway” …… I think you get my idea.

It’s really all the same on the internet ….. don’t talk only about yourself… reach out and meet people and don’t provide information to your co-workers that you normally only would talk about with your family. We all know how to act in real life … Social Media and interacting in it…. is the same way; you are doing the same thing on the web that you do in real life … it’s just a different format.

I’d like to share with you my company’s latest venture. We hired a company to produce a video called Smart City – Madison, WI. I think it tells a great story of our lifestyle, business climate and the why someone would want to live in Madison, WI. It’s been receiving great responses. Tell me what you think!
