I have to say I’ve learned a lot about Social Media in the last few years… I love it. When I first started looking at everything… I went through the same emotions, fears and cynical thoughts about it you may be thinking of right now. Let’s see if you have some that are similiar to what mine where?
“I don’t want everyone to know what’s going on in my life!”
“Why WOULD anyone want to know what’s going on in my life?”
“Stalkers….. they’re everywhere?”
“My ex… my family, my employer … oh my … they’ll see!!”
“Wasn’t there that one guy who did a video resume and it got sent out and people where laughing at him??? I don’t want people laughing at me!”
Well…. here we are in Web 2.0 …. and everything is transparent folks. If you comment on someone’s site… it’s there… cookies are another thing to keep in miind. I had someone leave a rather pointed comment on one of my other blogs, blasting me for this and that on my blog while implying he was an expert. The posted comment came through with his employer’s IP address… (smiles). I leave the comment up … everyone has their own opinons and I love it… but it warms my heart to know who and what that person actually is – so that is my little private “happy thought”. However, there are those out there that may not be as kind… so be aware of it!
Yes … all your fears may be right …. but guess what… you don’t have a choice. Embrace the change or be left behind ….. your decision.
Without further “Yapping” on my end …. here is Gary Vaynerchuck (The infamous “wine guy”) relaying a candid and truthful picture on utilizing New Media for personal branding.
Enjoy!

Very good advice Jennifer! It really doesn’t matter what media it is…..you have to be yourself to succeed….people will see a fake act….keep up the great work!

Excellent advice and nice clip of GaryVee to punctuate it at the end. He puts it in the open every day w/ passion and authenticity that’s allowed him to transcend well beyond just being a wine guy. Nice post.
