This is a big question for everyone out there …. When talking to people, you hear the “twitter” buzz like; everyone’s on twitter, did you twitter today?, oh, I’m on twitter, follow me on twitter … and the list goes on!
However, what I see on twitter are those that find the application, hear of people “making money on twitter” and then randomly start following as many people as they can to gain a large following or audience. Then eventually …. they realize …… 1.) twitter takes time to work within – it’s not an instant gratification program to lead generation and 2.) after they’ve followed their 2,000 limit of followers and blasted their real estate listings and URL’s with no direction or intent to really know their followers … they become discourged and write off twitter as … “useless to their business model”.
I have been on twitter since the fall of 2007 to promote my review blog….. when I first started .. I couldn’t figure it out. Who would want to hear what I have to say? What AM I going to say?, etc. I’ve done the faux pas of direct messaging my website to people in the wrong way (you can provide people with your URL… there is a time and place however) and I’ve incorrectly, randomly just followed people who will follow me back thus not having quality followers.
There is a learning curve to twitter. There is no way to generate unlimited leads that will make you the next Donald Trump in real estate within 2 weeks of using twitter. What it WILL get you is unlimited access to a GLOBAL medium to open your sphere of influence. It helps you in your online reputation, it creates a sense of “you really care about me” and a sense of community.
So, if you are going to use twitter …. USE TWITTER…. but do not expect instant results. You have to target your audience that you / your service needs to be in front of, engage those people pleasantly and expect to earn $0 in the immediate process.
To assist in your twitter experience of finding your target audience – check out my review on my review site: JenniferReviews.com about 3 twitter applications that can help. Even if you don’t use an application — the twitter “search” function at the very bottom of the twitter home page is just as useful to start with.
oh … and if you want to follow me on twitter relating to my reviews … feel free to follow me on the twitter link above in the post. BUT, if you want to work within real state, lead generation in new media and be among like minded business people …. follow me on twitter here!
Enjoy tweeting!
Jennifer

Nicely said and written. I personally use Tweetdeck.
Thanks for sharing. I have found Twitter to be an outstanding tool in my Pagosa Springs, CO based real estate business. I have people contact me about once a week with questions about Pagosa Springs real estate and travel information. Like anything else, it takes time and discipline.
